PICK PLAYER POS HT WT COLLEGE
Round 1, Pick 4 (4) Ezekiel Elliott RB 6'0" 225 Ohio St.
Pick Analysis: "A couple years ago DeMarco Murray carried the football 449 times, had 2,200 yards, and I think Elliott is a better football player. You plug him in there behind an offensive line that's in their prime, and you take a ton of pressure off a 36-year-old Tony Romo." -- Mike Mayock
Round 2, Pick 3 (34) Jaylon Smith OLB 6'2" 223 Notre Dame
Pick Analysis: "It takes a decision maker with conviction to make a selection like this. It starts with Jerry Jones; people who think outside the box and pull the trigger on these type of investments. I thought he could be Luke Kuechly at the next level. Smith is three downs all day long. Make no mistake, he will not play in 2016. This is all about a nerve regenerating and nobody knows if and to what extent." -- Mike Mayock
Round 3, Pick 4 (67) Maliek Collins DT 6'2" 311 Nebraska
Pick Analysis: "His production is not that great, but he'll be fun project for coach Rod Marinelli of the Cowboys. He has a nice piece of clay to work with." -- Daniel Jeremiah
Round 4, Pick 3 (101) Charles Tapper DE 6'3" 271 Oklahoma
Pick Analysis: The 'Boys finally address their biggest need on defense in this pass rusher. He can immediately come in and compete for a starting job with his size, penetrating ability, and ability to set the edge vs the run. -Mark Dulgerian
Round 4, Pick 37 (135) Dak Prescott QB 6'2" 226 Mississippi St.
Pick Analysis: Dallas had long been rumored to have preferred Prescott as a backup option to Tony Romo. There are physical, athletic, and leadership traits comparable to Tim Tebow, but Prescott is vastly more pro-ready as a passer. He's an ideal backup as he continues to work on overall consistency, but he'll bring a dynamic element if his name's ever called. --Mark Dulgerian
Round 6, Pick 14 (189) (From Raiders) Anthony Brown CB 5'11" 192 Purdue
Pick Analysis: The Cowboys had a big need at CB depth so Brown should have considerable opportunity to compete for a roster spot relative to his draft spot. He aced the pre-draft process recording the 2nd fastest CB time at the Combine (4.35). --Mark Dulgerian
Round 6, Pick 37 (212) (Compensatory Selection) Kavon Frazier SS 6'0" 217 Central Michigan
Pick Analysis: Frazier is a big-time hitter and box safety. His overall skill set doesn't suit today's NFL so he'll need to earn his stripes on special teams. --Mark Dulgerian
Round 6, Pick 41 (216) (Compensatory Selection) Darius Jackson RB 6'0" 221 Eastern Michigan
Pick Analysis: Jackson is an exceptional athlete with marginal football instincts. He likely won't get many chances to run behind Dallas' offensive line in camp so his special teams play will need to impress early. --Mark Dulgerian
Round 6, Pick 42 (217) (Compensatory Selection) Rico Gathers TE 6'6" 273 Baylor
pick Analysis: Gathers is a physical freak who began training for football following the 2015-16 basketball season. He's a project all the way, but his size and pre-draft performance convinced Dallas coaches to take a chance. --Mark Dulgerian |
