Welcome back O’Brien Schofield, and welcome A.J. Jefferson.
Schofield agreed to re-sign with the Seahawks on Friday, after playing for the Super Bowl champions last season. The team also agreed to terms with Jefferson, a cornerback who previously played for the Minnesota Vikings (2012-13) and Arizona Cardinals (2010-11).
The 6-foot-3, 242-pound Schofield proved to be a versatile performer after the Seahawks acquired him on waivers from the Cardinals in July. He played the Leo end spot while Cliff Avril and since-departed Chris Clemons were sidelined during the preseason and early in the regular season, and also saw time at linebacker and on special teams.
He played in 15 regular-season games and started two – the opener at end and Week 3 at outside linebacker.
Schofield signed with the New York Giants as a free agent in March, but the deal was voided because he failed his physical. So he returns to the Seahawks to provide depth and versatility on a defense that led the NFL in average points and yards allowed during the 2013 season.
The 6-1, 190-pound Jefferson joined the Cardinals as rookie free agent in 2010. He was traded to the Vikings in 2012. Jefferson has two interceptions and 109 tackles in his four-season NFL career, including 66 with the Cardinals in 2011 when he started seven games.
